I always strive to capture animals, and their people, feeling comfortable

I grew up with cats. We had horses as well, but cats were always in and around the house.

In 2010 my husband and I brought home a tiny tuxedo kitten. A dapper little thing, he looked like a Bill – the very first cat of our own. Bill and his relationship with us has inspired a lot of my work. He has since been joined by the boys Fluff and, more recently, wild man Bran and the ginger stray Rex.

I want my images to show the character of an animal. I want them to show the relationship between an animal and their people.

The great thing about animal photography is no two shoots are the same. A cat will not be told what to do so we go with the flow. That doesn’t mean that the process can’t be influenced by toys and treats, but it has to be fun for all involved and when the model indicates it’s time to stop, we call it a day.

I shoot on location and am equally at home in a paddock or on a country walk. I also have the equipment to do a more formal and stylised session in a pet’s favourite place.

Originally from Groningen, The Netherlands, I now live & work in the North Lincolnshire countryside.

I studied English Language & Literature (MA, Groningen) and later gained a First Class BA (Hons) Commercial Photography at the University of Derby.
